Furuyu area features a good atmosphere of a rustic hot spring town and relaxing nature. It has attracted not only people visiting here to cure themselves in hot springs but also many artists such as Aoki Shigeru and Saito Mokichi. Mokichi is especially known to have created 38 poem when he stayed here for 3 weeks in 1920. His well known poem is inscribed in the monument found in the garden of the inn, Kakureisen. The hot spring water here has a little sticky texture and is transparent, scent-less and taste-less. The temperature is from about 34.5 up to 43.6 degrees Celsius and the quality is mildly alkaline. It is especially popular for the alleviating effect for arthritis.
