The full-size monument of 25 great figures related to Saga, who actively participated in various fields around the end of Edo period and Meiji Restoration were set up at 9 places on the central street of Saga City according to the "Hizen Saga Bakumatsu-Meiji Restoration Expo" which is held all around the prefecture from March 17, 2018 to January 14, 2019.
Enjoy walking around historical sites in towns of Saga while learning about the achievements of each figure who has accomplished great feats.

SPOT8 Pioneers of engineering and scientific fields
-Shida Rinzaburo (1855-1892) *The figure sitting on the right
Japan's first Doctor of Engineering. Foresaw the developments of Electrical Engineering which leads to the modern IT society.
-Kuroda Chika (1884-1968) *The figure standing on the left
Japan's first female chemist. Became a Doctor of Science at the age of 45 after succeeded in structure determination of plant pigments.
