The Ariake Sea is known for the largest tidal range, which is 6 meters. When the tide is low, a vast tideland appears. Various kinds of creatures are living in the Ariake Sea, and some of them cannot be seen anywhere but the Ariake Sea.
Also, the "Higshiyoka Tideland" and "Hizen Kashima Tideland" where waterfowls and other migratory birds including endangered species on the way of their journey or stay for the winter, are registered in Ramsar Convention on Wetands.
