Okawachiyama Village

After the government of the Saga Domain set up kilns that produce only gifts for the government here in the Edo Period, pottery makers here continued providing potteries to the Tokugawa Shogunate and the government officials until the end of the Edo Period. The area is scattered with old brick chimneys and 30 kilns, and you can feel the history and tradition of about 350 years alive here. The Agency for Cultural Affairs recognize stories of its culture and tradition through historical attractions or features as “Japanese Heritage”. In April, 2016, the history and landscape of Okawachiyama was recognized as “Hometown of Japanese Pottery, Hizen ~Pottery Walk with Simultaneous Emergence of Many Talents and Achievements ~". The Kyushu Ceramic Museum

At this museum, the history of ceramics of Kyushu, pieces of ancient ceramics, works of modern potters representing each prefecture of Kyushu, and collections of Arita ware from the Edo period such as Kanbara Collection which is a collection of ceramic pieces exported during the Edo period and the Arita Ware pieces from Mr. & Mrs. Shibata Collection that were selected systematically, are exhibited. In addition, various special exhibitions are held as well.
Siebold's Footbath

Siebold's Footbath is named after the story that Siebold who largely contributed to the Japan's Western medicine visited Ureshino Hot Spring. Soaking your feet in a hot spring improves blood circulation and your whole body can be warmed up. This place is used as a place where the locals and tourists can mingle.
Ninja Village Hizen Yume Kaido

The Ninja Village is a re-creation of the Nagasaki Kaido from the Edo Period. Ninjas are hiding throughout the village and visitors can try their hands at Shuriken and blow darts. There's plenty to see with the Ninja Show, Daidougei (street performances), and others!
Hizen Yoshidayaki Center

This spot is recommended for those who want to visit kilns but have no time to do so or who want to do some research before visiting kilns. Items of 8 kilns and trading companies are displayed and sold here. You can also enjoy a pottery painting workshop from 800 yen (shipping fee excluded) and a pottery hand-shaping experience from 2,100 yen (over 2 Hours, reservation required).
